About

We invite you to Cromer’s only landmark. This building is a historic landmark in an area marked out on early maps sent back to England for South Australian settlement. The area once featured an Inn and Post office, now converted into houses, with remnants of cottages scattered throughout. The School was established at the start of 1899 and has served various purposes over the years, including hosting religious ceremonies, local dance nights, meetings, and more recently serving as tennis clubrooms.

After being left unattended for more than 15 years, the building endured vandalism, break-ins, and vermin infestation. In 2019, a group of locals, dubbed ‘The Friends of the Old Cromer School’ formed to petition the Council for assistance in renovating the building for community use. The Council granted funds, and Local Community labour and expertise was donated, except for trades like electrical, earthmoving, and plumbing. Tanks were purchased, windows, walls, ceiling, roof, courts and fencing were repaired with many items donated. A shed was installed and labour to cut and bag wood all donated.

The hall and grounds can be hired. Please contact us at oldcromerschool@gmail.com or use our contact form for enquiries.
